I recently rewatched Days of Thunder (1990) film by Tony Scott and it struck a cord with me I had previously not experienced before.
As a quick recap (spoilers follow!), the movie follows a ruckey NASCAR driver Cole Trickle (played by Tom Cruise) as he races, competeting against rivals, bonding with his betters, and falling in love. A significant plot point is his initial rivalry, and then later friend, with a fellow race car driver Rowdy Burns (played by Michael Rooker). Their bonding starts as a result of a shared accident on the race track, causing them both to end up in the hospital.
